Mia Carl (b. 1991)

“Not water, but rest (II)”, 2021. Signed Mia Carl on the reverse. Oil on canvas. 49×47 cm.

The Danish artist Mia Carl (b. 1991) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Art academy in Bergen and is right now part of the postmaster Anne Marie Carl- Nielsen’s programme for art in public spaces at the Funen Art Academy. In Carl’s practice the landscape takes center stage. Both as a direct connection to land, and as an allegory that enables larger questions connected to beauty, decay, exploitation, and regeneration. For the auction Carl has donated the painting NOT WATER BUT REST. A work that is part of a larger series, exploring the healing potentials of time and stillness. The frame is made in her workshop and consists of the top part which is found on a beach in Portugal bordering a restricted polluted industrial park. The rest is made of leftover wood from other frames she has made.
